A co-worker of mine has a son who is an up and coming filmmaker. A while back (maybe a year or so), he was working on a short film project called "LILLY & ROSE" that was seeking funding on the Seed and Spark, a crowdsource funding site along the lines of Kickstarter, GoFundMe, or IndieGoGo. I donated to the cause and followed the process of the film being made (through updates) to its completion and its current festival competitions. The movie is well-made and thought provoking. I enjoyed it. (More about it HERE).
My co-worker informed me last week that her son was venturing off on a new project. It sounds like something that could be ripped from today's headlines and is both scary and timely. It's called "The New Freedom". He (Sterling Cook) is back on Seed and Spark, but this time---in addition to pledges of cash to help finance the project---he and his partners are asking for people to "follow" them.
Here is a note from Sterling, telling me about the project:
Thank you so much for the support with "Lily N Rose." My mother told me how emphatic you were about the project, and we were touched. (Not to mention you probably had to teach her how to load it because she is allergic to technology).
That production was a blast, and the film has been doing very well in the few festivals we have currently played.
In other news, I am currently writing a horror feature. We are part of a rally hosted by 3311 and Orchard studios. We are working to get 1000 followers so that we may pitch it to some executives at the studios. If you find time to check it out and give a follow, I'd be eternally grateful. You can find it here bit.ly/TheNewFreedomFilm
Thanks, again!
Best,
Sterling J. Cook
The studio they are hoping to get support from is the same studio that gave us "Creep" and "It Follows". While financial assistance is always welcome during their Seed and Spark campaign, the team is already met 57% of its funding goal. however it is still 737 followers short. They need 1,000 (or more) to get the studio to even look at them. Following is FREE.
I know the world seems to get more and more expensive all of the time and art takes a back seat. Helping these people out won't cost you a cent---just a quick click or two to "follow" (well, you probably have to log in as well...which means signing up...). If you can afford a few bucks to help out as well---great.
Anyway, I wish Sterling and his team all the best with this new endeavor.
