TRIANGLE BURGERS DRIVE IN--Fresno's vintage burger joint is a jewel

Several years ago, I discovered a cool, little vintage burger joint on the edge of town. Started in 1963, Triangle Burgers (named after its triangular lot and building) has survived the decades. I think it's the last vintage drive in of its kind left in town. I had not been to the place in a long time. Earlier today, after an exasperating experience of trying to get a passport, I was heading down the 99, ready to hit the 180 and go home...when it occurred to me that the next off ramp was Belmont. And at Belmont and 99 is Triangle Burgers. It was nearly 3 p.m. and I had not eaten yet today. I'd been through an ordeal---so why NOT treat myself? I skipped the freeway home and made a beeline for the burger joint.

I had intended to get my order to go-go.  However, the new girl behind the counter (she said she'd been there a whole month) accidentally served it up as if I were eating there. I could have said something---but what the heck? I'm a sucker for nifty old hamburger stands. I mean, in the past I've gotten overly excited about a pair of cool, old A&W drive ins in Modesto and Hanford. One in my own backyard? Of course, I took a seat and soaked the place up.

The burger wasn't the greatest, but it was good. Maybe it was an off day? Still, it was cool eating out of the little plastic basket with vintage 50's tunes playing. Who knows? My parents may have come here back in the day?

Since my last visit, Triangle Burgers has expanded. They've grown from one location to four! I have not been to the new locations yet, but I hope to soon. Hopefully they'll be as cool and classic as the original. (You can read about the new locations HERE.)

Back in 2012, my friend John was in town visiting. I was taking him around town, showing him whatever I could think to drag him to. We ate at Triangle and I made a video about the place. It's below if you'd like to see it. (Both John and I are in it.)

I didn't need the calories....but I did need the keen nostalgia experience. It was a blast from the past.

How long were you there before you were "escorted" out by the local police?

Darling, you were not with me, so there was no booze involved or shameless sexual solicitations. It was just a simple, quiet meal. No police were needed. Tramp. Xoxo
