FLASHBACK: The Great Northwest Road Trip 2016: Part 11

Okay--back to July 5.After our trip to Port Townsend, Erich and I decided to visit the Blue Fox Drive In. I'd been once before during my visit in 2013 (I even bought an old speaker during a "garage sale" they had at the time.). It's an authentic drive in from the 1950s (established in 1959) but it's kind of funky.

They've got a go kart track as well as a huge arcade and snack bar to entertain families. It just so happens that FINDING DORY was playing along with INDEPENDENCE DAY 2. Odd combo---and it made for a late night (as it does not get dark until after 10). But it was fun.

The next day--our last on the island--Erich and I went on another hike, this time in Fort Ebey State Park. Fort Ebey has a surviving battery from WWII (There are bigger, more extensive ones at Fort Casey, down by the Coupeville ferry station, and across at Fort Wordon in Port Townsend, there are several large ones as well) and several hiking trails. We started off at the battery.

At some points you could see the lagoons off in the distance from my favorite hiking trail we had done on our first day on the island.

After the hike, Erich, Mom, Brawn and I headed down to Greenbank to try the best hamburgers on the island. I forget the name...but it was closed. So we had lunch at a place called Charmers Bistro instead:

After that, we dropped off Mom and Brawn, and then Erich and I decided to quickly give downtown Coupeville a once over before our time there was concluded.

Just before going back to Mom's place, we stopped for must-have ice cream at Kapaw's Iskreme. It almost always has a line coming out the door (got a shot when there was a break--but we had to stand in line). The building it was in was originally housed the Island County Abstract office in 1890 and later was the original home of Seattle's Best Coffee (yes, it originated in Coupeville--NOT Seattle!):

And that is it for this installment...and our time in Coupeville. Next up our long, LONG, L-O-N-G trek to Bend, Oregon and a stop in "Twin Peaks".

Stay tuned.

Cheers!
