FLASHBACK: The Great Northwest Road Trip 2016: Part 7

Hi there. When we last left off, Erich and I had dropped Ashley off at the airport and headed for Washington. We drove and drove and drove and drove (and drove and drove...). Instead of going through Seattle (and that traffic hell), we went a less traveled back way and stopped in some little town for gas.

We eventually reached Port Townsend, a cute old town where we'd make the ferry crossing to Whidbey Island, where my mom and brother live. With it being summer, I had to make a reservation to make sure we could get on board. I had no idea how long our trek would take us when i booked it the night before, so I booked the last crossing at about 10 pm. We rolled into town way early, but the earlier ferries were sold out. So...with time to kill, we walked about Port Townsend, which Erich had never really visited before.

Many of the shops were already closed for the night, but we found a restaurant that was still open (it was closing up while we were there though). We got a table near the window that looked out on the water...and ordered dinner and much-needed cocktails!

After dinner we went and got in line to get on the ferry. The crossing from Port Townsend to the island (it arrives just south of Coupeville, the town my mom lives in) takes about 30-40 minutes. There's a map of Whidbey Island (it's neighboring island, Camino, is also shown to the right of Whidbey. Whidbey Island is this long, snaking mass. Find the word Coupeville, follow the "P" south and that's approximately where this particular ferry lands. There's also a ferry at the southern end of the island in Clinton and there is a bridge off of the island at the north end at Deception Pass.  The last picture shows us arriving at the Coupeville ferry landing.

Next time, our first day in Coupeville!

Stay tuned!
