My Coronavirus Diary Part 60

There are more than 1.5 million cases of the coronavirus in the United States. More than 92,000 have died here. A new model is predicting that 143,000 will die by August 1st. The CDC announced that COVID 19 can possibly be spread by corpses as well as the living.

The Trump Administrations continues to try and deflect blame for the US death toll while pushing to re-open the economy.

Georgia was the first state to re-open. It's infection numbers didn't seem to increase much. Those numbers were a lie.

In Pennsylvania, one county is struggling with infection numbers and can't even begin to think about re-opening until their case numbers start to drop significantly. The Pittsburg City Council has extended the emergency disaster declaration there.

In Florida, the death toll is reaching 2,000 as the state continues to open up. A health official was forced to resign  there for not deleting coronavirus data. A person there who believed the virus was being over-hyped and a fake crisis, has gotten infected and has changed his tune.

One hundred people working at three crawfish farms in Louisiana have tested positive for the virus.

Louisiana and Mississippi re-opened their casinos. People have driven miles to go to them.

Texas has seen as surge in cases as it continues to re-open. The governor just announced the re-opening of  certain businesses and schools despite having had their highest jump in cases the day before.  One church there had to close down again after five church leaders tested positive for the virus.

Ohio has had 1,720 deaths and has more cases, but is still in the process of re-opening.

Idaho's governor's biggest virus critic is the lieutenant governor.

Maryland had it's largest surge in cases yet...just 4 days after re-opening. The state also had its first pediatric death. One clever restaurant in the state has added "bumper tables" to insure social distancing.

In Oregon, a judge ruled the governor's stay-at-home orders null and void...until the state's supreme court stepped in and halted that decision.

Utah had its highest death toll in one day recently. It was only 8, but even 8 is too many.

The Navajo Nation has the highest rate of infection in the nation.

Scientists are still baffled by how the coronavirus works.  A new report adds delirium as a possible side effect of the virus.

Postmortem testing has shown how the virus has had a much broader impact than earlier believed.

Right ventricular enlargement is a predictor of mortality among COVID 19 cases.

The president said he is taking daily doses of hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial drug he touted as a miracle cure for the virus...that has been shown to cause deadly result in hospitals. He reports that he has been taking it for about a week and a half. Patients who need the drug for other reasons are concerned about a shortage again if the president's followers start taking it. Since the president said he has been taking the drug, the FDA stance on it appears to have softened.

The vaccine being developed by Moderna has shown significant results. Participants have developed antibodies against the virus. However, others have questions about the report and the study that was done.

The Trump Administration has extended its border and travel restrictions.

The Senate is hearing testimony on the new proposed stimulus bill, but it is reported that Republicans want to see results before they'll approve it.

Yellowstone re-opened. Thousands of visitors flocked to it...but there "was not a mask in sight".

GLOBAL:

There are 4.9 million confirmed cases of the virus around the world. There have been 323,000 deaths.

In Chile, protesters have violently clashed with police over lockdown.

Brazil is overwhelmed and nurses are dying due to the infection. The country now has the third highest number of cases, behind the United States and Russia.

France reported 70 new cases in schools after partial re-opening of the nations classrooms.

CALIFORNIA:

The San Francisco Bay Area has gone a couple of days without a virus-related death for the first time since March. San Francisco's homeless population is has become a test for officials trying to cope with safety during the outbreak.

The state has issued new guidelines that will allow most counties to start re-opening once again.

LOCAL:

A Fresno resident on a flight to Dallas shared video of the flight being packed in like sardines. Scary!

Madera's drive in movie theater is re-opening this Friday so people can safely enjoy movies in their cars. New safety restrictions will be in place.

CREATIVITY:

The artist SHAG has unleashed his 10 quarantine coloring page. This one features a hipster Frankenstein's monster. Groovy!

Here is a quick 6 minute and 18 second short horror flick made during quarantine, NOT ALONE IN HERE:

Randy Rainbow has a new spoof out on President Trump based on the song TRADITION from FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Ladies and gentlemen, I present DISTRACTION:

I love the parodies out there. Here is YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME:

This guy does his best to channel Rick Astley:

Here is a parody from GREASE:

I've never seen HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, but this is a fun parody taken from it starring some teen and his mom.

Although not a parody, the Quarantine Kitchen guy is back with a new recipe. It's not a cocktail this time, but one for a casserole or hot dish. He also reminds viewers to give blood:

MAILBAG:

Cathy, in San Francisco, sent a quick note:

"We're just getting up. Travis goes across the street and gets his coffee and a croissant for us. Around 1 or 2:00 we'll go for a walk. Then later it's PBS News,  David Muir,  Rachel Maddow. That's our day! I hope I didn't bore you.

SHIRLEY:

On Monday morning, Shirley was out in the yard...and then it started raining. HARD. She came on to the patio and  came back in the house. She seemed annoyed about the rainy day schedule. Instead of going into her box, she went down the side of her box and started pushing it around. She also pooped. Thank you, Shirley...

Eventually, she did calm down and go back into her box and went to sleep.

On Tuesday, she  wanted out. I was on the phone talking with my mother at the time. Mom and I chatted for about 15 minutes or so. When we got off of the phone, I thought I'd look in on Shirley and see what she was up to as I couldn't see her from the sliding glass door. Where had she gone?

I looked and looked and looked. She wasn't anywhere. I was panicked.  I couldn't find her in any of her usual places. I dug through all of her favorite bushes and she was just nowhere to be found. And then I remembered that when I went to let her out this morning, she had changed her mind and went back to her cardboard condo in the corner of the dining room. Duh.

Later that afternoon, she did go out. She came back into the house again on her own about 4:30 pm, but was in a mood. She was pushing her house around again. Silly girl. Her area is a pig sty. I'll need to clean it when she wakes up and goes out again later today.

ME:

On Monday I received a surprise in the mail from my friend Kathleen in North Hollywood. It was a book on California Tiki called, well... CALIFORNIA TIKI. Ha!  She also included an article about tiki from the Los Angeles Times. How incredibly sweet. THANK YOU, Kathleen. Golly, I do love my tiki stuff... How exciting.

I also put my new handicapped license plates on. Waaaagh!

On Tuesday morning, after another horrible night of trying to fall asleep, I was woken up a little after 8 by a horribly loud noise. What the heck? A peek out the sliding door revealed it to be a tree guy who had come to grind down my stump.

I wish they had let me know ahead of time. It was no big deal, really. I would have just been more presentable looking. Since I had just woken up (and my security cameras showed he'd tried to ring the doorbell--which does not work--before he started) and I think he thought I wasn't home, I just played 'possum and didn't go out to talk to him.

It looks like he did a decent job...and he hauled all of the wood chips and debris away.

Not long afterwards, I had a call from a doctor's office. It was for the referral to the immunologist/rheumatologist. Hooray! I will have a telehealth consult with her on June 1st. Whoo hoo!

After searching all over for Shirley (when she was already in the house--see above), I had a text from my co-worker friend, Melaney. She said she had left me a surprise on my porch. Huh?

Just after finishing her text, my security camera alarm dinged and there was a video clip of Mel dropping something off. Ha!

Oh my stars! It was a bottle of SkinnyGirl margarita. Mel had told me about it. It is bottled cocktails with reduced cards/calories. The alcohol is already in it. Zowie! THANK YOU, Mel. What a surprise. (And you know what I was sipping on last night. Yowza!)

Hmm. It might soon be time for another...

Stay SAFE. Stay SHELTERED. Stay ALIVE.

CHEERS!
