Rudy Giuliani's supposed election fraud "witness" he announced at the Four Seasons press conference has turned out to be a sex offender who exposed himself to a 7 and 11 year old. You can't make this stuff up!

MAIL:
One of my writer friends, Robby in Pittsburg, PA, sent me a nice email note the other day:

"We are doing well," he said. "Surviving is the keyword: Surviving the pandemic. Surviving our jobs. Surviving the election. Survival of the fittest is such a true statement. We 'hunker' down a lot. All work and no play. All of the time. It's eating me from the inside out. I read a lot. And write a lot. I've done so many writing projects lately, I can't even keep track of them.

"The city is a grand place to find books and to go book shopping. It's one of my passions, which I can't do lately. It's getting under my skin. I do hope I can do this someday soon. We used to throw many parties (wine, book club, football) and haven't in the last 8 months. It's been dreadful. I feel like I'm living the book FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC, minus the incest. LOL

"On the upside... Our health is substantial for being in our fifties. The retirement plan is in the works. I sell a few books for fun here and there. I haven't run out of ideas to write about. Biden looks like he's going to be our next President, which I'm thrilled about. We both have worked through this pandemic every day. Life could be worse.

"I'm going to write. I'm working on a short called THE STORYTELLER. I'm over halfway through it. Ken's sleeping. I can get a few words in."

My friend Andrei in Italy sent me a brief note and some recent pictures of himself:
"Here is bad," he said. "Partial lockdown. For the moment just gyms and other places are closed, but not the important ones. But thanks to God I'm still good and I work."

Kim, my CNA friend in Wisconsin, sent an update:

"I am helping one of the girls that works at the nursing home," she said.  "She has COVID and if she needs groceries or anything, I leave it at her door.

"It is so bad here. We have a few out at the nursing home and a couple out at the hospital.  My immune system stays well. I have no idea how. I am diabetic and older.  And on the heavy side.  I do take vitamin C , D and I get enough sleep.  I have been trying to eat better as well. I will keep praying that it works.

"I worked at the hospital tonight and we did not get any COVID admits. I'm hoping that means we are slowing down a bit. I work 12 hours tomorrow and work the rest of the week.

"My aunt and I are going to chat in the next couple of weeks and make a final decision about Hawaii.  I keep hearing we might get a vaccine in April.  I am honestly thinking we should wait. It is better to be safe then have someone get sick.

"Halloween was a bummer. I just stayed home and watched scary movies. The one great day was when Biden was announced the election winner! THANK GOD!  It sounds like he wants to get started right away on getting COVID under control.  Hopefully 2021 will be a better year."

Vito, who lives in Italy, but is from Argentina and who has been stuck there since the pandemic started, sent me a note:

"Well the situation isn’t the best," he said. "There’s more than a million cases, but also most of the cases have been recovered. The number of deaths it’s around 35k in total. The problem it’s what the government have been doing while the pandemic. We were in a very difficult situation when it comes to economy, now we are even worse. And our money keeps losing value each day. So let’s say you want to buy a property or rent. The price of it it depends of the price on the international market,  and that price it’s in dollars. So yeah.. things aren’t great around here."

Yvonne is one of therapists at my old hospital. She only rotates into my old unit once in a while. However, because I left so suddenly, not getting to say good bye to anyone, after I was officially terminated in August, I sent everyone in Rehab (nurses, CNAs, therapists., housekeepers, unit secretaries, social workers, etc. little goodbye cards. Yvonne, who I didn't know that well, wrote back. (Fun fact: She is Irish and went to high school with some of the members of U2!)

Guillaume (who also goes by Bill) in France sent an update and a few pictures. One is he and his wife at a stand-up comedy performance before their current lockdown, another is Guillaume on the streets before the new lockdown, and the last is his family on Halloween (which I didn't know they celebrated. Ha!):

"We are all fine, he said. "No symptoms for none of us. My sister's husband was tested positive and got real sick for a week, but now he is better. Their 6-year-old daughter was also tested positive but with no symptoms at all.

"We had a curfew from 9pm to 6 am for a few days but now we are lockdowned again. Except we can go to work. And buy grocery. And jog for an hour max. All movements outside must be covered by an authorization. Shops are closed except for food. And even in supermarkets, other stuff than food is unavailable. No records,  no books, no clothes. Some shops do the click and collect. And online shopping is still open.

"Schools are open and everyone older than 6 is supposed to wear a mask. But the Universities are closed and students work from home.

"And no food delivery can be provided after 10pm.

"Now, if you go out on the streets it does not look like a lockdown. People in the streets, going various ways, with masks. But it feels like they've been there, done that. In March no one was out, everyone stayed inside. Now, people go out. With an authorization but they go out.
Here's a link for the official authorization if you want to see how many options you have if you need to go out:

"It's incredible from here to see Trump react and behave. Nobody likes to lose but in his case, it's never seen before. I hope Biden will be able to be the 46th president inJanuary. It feels like anything can happen... But there are still those millions of people who voted for Trump because they think he is right. And that's scary."

Scott, in North Carolina, sent a brief note:

"The virus here is not too bad, but we're pretty much staying home," he said. "We have been camping a lot lately, so we don't see anybody. Almost everyone wears masks here, at least in the stores. We're prepared for another year of this if needed."

Rosa in London dropped a quick note:

"I am going back to Spain for few months and will be working from Spain, as my dad is unwell. I am moving out, so I just decided to do it sooner rather than later. My house selling and buying is really going very slowly, but still marching on. No stopping now!

"COVID here is a freaking disaster. No one knows what this government is doing. Now we have severe restrictions, but people are dying every single day. It's sad. I just hope the vaccine will come soon.

"Congratulations on Biden’s win. What a massive relief!"

My friend David from Australia dropped a chatty email:

"When we last spoke, Melbourne was still in the midst of the lockdown (curfew, distance restrictions and all stores closed except chemists, grocery and cafes - take out only)," he said.

"Melbourne got the brunt of Australia's second wave - due mainly to a bungled hotel quarantine scheme where private security was used instead of police or army (who offered). There were stories of the security guards allowing guests to leave for a cigarette and even sleeping with the guests. (Nothing says 'come here to me more than a snotty corona virus...)

"Anyhow... After a shitload (that's a real word here) of hard work, Victoria is free... Nearly.
The shops are open. Pablo is back at work (as a tradie, he was not able to work by himself tiling swimming pools... Go figure). All driving tests were on hold and there is a six month wait for people to get their licences. All the poor 16-year-olds are suffering... The thing is, Pablo was needing to get his licence. This week they allowed a special test because of his work needs and.... He passed. So, now he is out on the road alone. (We had been getting practice once a day during lockdown when leaving the house for groceries - that was the only way he could practice).

We have a travel limit of 25km now (it used to be 5) and regional and metropolitan Victoria cannot mix as yet (insert Nellie Oleson rolling her eyes "a country party, how droll").

As I write this, I am sipping a Starbucks at a good court. Well, I had to check in via a QR code ..and wear my mask (not while sipping)...

And considering two months ago we had nearly 800 cases a day... Victoria has just recorded EIGHT straight days with no new cases and no deaths.

Halloween in Australia is beginning to pick up a little like the USA. (Historically, we are not huge trick or treaters). As you know, I always do a pumpkin.

This year the scariest thing has been waiting for the Victorian Premier, Dan Andrews, to announce out daily COVID numbers. Dan has a bit of a cult following now, always turning up to the press conference in his North Face jacket.

So, I did a Dan-O-Lantern...

Attached is a picture, and the real Dan for comparison."

SHIRLEY:

ZZZZZZ zzzzzzz....

She's sleeping away, dreaming of spring.

ME:
I have not been doing much. I've just been so tired. And while I have been trying to go through old clothes and things to get rid of and/or been making out Christmas cards (It's way too early, I know...but I make out so many each year.), I haven't really done much. I've had no doctor appointments, no social engagements, nor any need to go to the bank or the store. I also haven't shaved or showered or changed in days.

On Tuesday, I wanted to get to the post office before the 5 pm pick up for the day. (I wanted to mail off all of my overseas Christmas cards, just to make sure they arrive okay.) On the way there, I got a call from my former co-worker Mike, who never calls. He wanted to know if I was home. I explained where I was and that I'd be home soon. (I was, of course, in my slippers, pajama pants and T-shirt. I was sure I was pretty "ripe" and wasn't planning on going anywhere that I could be seen.) He said he had something he was going to leave on my front porch in about 15 minutes.

I raced home. I was thrilled with the idea of seeing Mike. I hadn't seen him since his last day at work in March (which, serendipitously, I happened to come across a photo of randomly on Tuesday or Wednesday. It's below).
Even though we'd be socially distant and masked up, I was looking forward to his surprise visit.

It took longer than the 15 minutes he expected it to take to get there. During the wait, I found myself migrating down the hallway to my room to sort clothes again. It was there, all of the way at the far end of the house, when Mike was at my door. I had to make my way down the hall to the front door. By the time I got there, Mike was in his car and starting it.

I stood on the porch, in my PJs, masked and waving at him, but he didn't see me. I kept waving as he drove down to the corner and turned it. He didn't look back. Oh well... But that's when I turned and saw the bag next to the door.
Oh my stars! Mike (and his wife M'lissa and daughter Emily) had made me dinner--for DAYS! How utterly kind of them--and such a total surprise. There were three trays of enchiladas, a container of rice and three hunks of yellow cake. Wow! Mike and his family have always been so very generous. It was swell of them to think of me.
Of course I made myself a plate right away,  I don't think I had eaten that day yet. Wow! Wow! WOW! THANK YOU, Mike, M'lissa, and Emily.
I am bewildered by all of the generous and thoughtful gifts and acts of kindness over the last several months. Normally, I would be in full Christmas mode--but this year, with my physical limitations, exhaustion and the medical costs not covered by insurance, I just can't afford to anything physically or financially. That bothers me to no end... I just hope everyone knows how much I have appreciated all they have done.

On Thursday, a delivery guy left a package on my front porch. Hmm. It turned out to be a Donald Trump Christmas ornament with the president with an eagle in one hand, a flag and machine gun in the other. Nothing inside indicates where it came from. My guess is it came from my former co-worker, Mike. I also think he was the one who sent the screaming goat toy a while back (since both of my prime suspects deny doing it). Ha! THANK YOU, Mike! (??)
By Thursday evening, fully shaven, showered, and dressed, I went to pick up my mom from the airport.
She is here to work on one of her rental houses that is vacant. However, lucky me, she will stay here through Thanksgiving.

Stay SAFE! Stay HEALTHY! Stay ALIVE!
